Baltimore’s rich African American golf history will be celebrated this fall as the Baltimore African American Tourism Council hosts a special awards luncheon recognizing several milestones that have helped shape the sport locally and nationally.

The Baltimore Golf History Matters Awards Luncheon will take place Friday, September 25, 2026, from noon to 4 p.m. at Forest Park Golf Club, 2900 Hillsdale Avenue in Baltimore. The celebration will recognize the 100th anniversary of Forest Park Golf Club, the 59th anniversary of Morgan State University’s 1967 CIAA Golf Championship, and the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Pitch & Putt African American Women Golf Club at Carroll Park Golf Course.

Together, the anniversaries highlight generations of Black golfers who played, competed and built community in Baltimore at a time when opportunities in the sport were often limited by segregation and discrimination.

Among those being honored are members of Morgan State University’s historic 1967 CIAA championship golf team, including Allen Wilson, John Bullock and Tim McCready.

Awards will also be presented to Andrea Morgan, president of the Pitch & Putt Club, and Charles “Chuck” Sperandeo, a U.S. Golf Teachers Federation master golf instructor.

Special guests are expected to include Sabirina Tapp-Harper, Baltimore City sheriff-elect, and Clarence “Tiger” Davis, CEO of the National Association of Black Veterans and a co-founder of Buffalo Soldier Day in Maryland.

Organizers also anticipate special presentations recognizing the historic occasion from Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, U.S. Rep. Kweisi Mfume, U.S. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and the Baltimore City Council.

The celebration will extend beyond the luncheon.

Golfers can participate in an 18-hole shotgun scramble beginning at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., Golf Pro Richard Sheppard will lead a one-hour beginners golf clinic, creating an opportunity for people new to the game to learn fundamentals before the luncheon begins.

The event also reflects an effort to connect Baltimore’s golf history with the next generation. Proceeds will benefit Baltimore First Tee and other youth sports organizations, supporting programs designed to introduce young people to athletics, mentorship and personal development.

Admission to the awards luncheon is $45. The beginners golf clinic is $30, while participation in the golf scramble is $125 per golfer, all-inclusive.

From women organizing the Pitch & Putt Club nearly nine decades ago, to Morgan State golfers capturing a CIAA championship, to generations of players taking the course at Forest Park, Baltimore has a golf legacy worth remembering.

On September 25, that history will be celebrated on the same grounds where another chapter of Baltimore golf has been unfolding for a century.
